Momma's Closet

Sometimes, the monsters are the people you love and trust the most. We've been locked in Mama's closet for three weeks. I know, because there's a crack under the door just big enough for my sister to peek under. She gives me reports, like the weather man on Mama's favorite morning show. We mark days by light and dark. My name is Hope and I'm gunna need lots of it to get out of here before Halloween comes. Or even worse, you are the monster.I'm in hell. I'd tell you my name if it mattered, but it doesn't. In here, I'm simply known as inmate 568620. I'm the monster who left her daughters to starve. It doesn't matter why I did it. What matters is that I left them, alone, to die. And now? They haunt me: A life sentence with no chance of parole. Sometimes, justice is haunting.
