Carl Thurston, a burly, gruff, streetwise cop and Sam’s best friend, answered the call for police rescue in Sam’s ER , from the gun- toting, bullet- spraying thugs of the Quinterra drug cartel. When the smoked cleared, the only two sons of the drug lord, Carlos Quinterra, had been shot and killed by Officer Thurston.
That evening shattered Sam’s perspective on life. No longer could he separate the dirty and dangerous world of the streets “ out thereâ€, from the sanitized world of the emergency department, with it’s clean sheets, white coats and waiting rooms. Disgusted and tormented, Sam wanted to give it all up. Carl again rescued his friend, and arranged for them to take a relaxing hunting trip out West, a dream they had shared for years.
The dream becomes a nightmare as they are unwittingly entangled in a brutal web of retribution, murder and deceit which takes them from the disrupted peace of Upstate New York to the serene, and later blood soaked, forests of Montana and back to their home town of Utica, New York. Through their efforts at psychological as well as physical survival , they find their strengths, the limits of their friendship and unconditional love.
