Madman at My Door

What do you do when the lunatic who's sworn vengeance against you is released from the mental institution as cured? You know exactly what his vengeance will be: he won't come after you, he'll come after your wife and two little girls. You can plead with the judge not to turn him loose, but can the judge keep a sane man in the insane asylum? You can beg the police to keep him off the streets, but can the police arrest a man who hasn't committed any crime? You can ask for a gun, but will the police feel it's safe for you to have one in the condition you're in? What about the reporter who wants to do a series on the ex-lunatic's readjustment to society. Is he getting the story he say he's after, or is he unintentionally pushing a madman toward murder? You could flee, of course- pick up your wife and children and go. Except- go where?- with what?- for how long? Isn't it possible he really is cured, that he isn't after you at all? Sure it's possible, but nobody is ever going to make you believe it! So what do you do?
