Set in a medieval-like world, "Leofric of Longridge" tells the story of characters from the epic fantasy novel "Of Wisdom and Valor: The Art of War. The Path of Peace." (Part II of the Windflower Saga). Leofric, who as a grown man is the heroic protagonist in "Of Wisdom and Valor" is only fourteen years old. Even a fearsome warlord was once a youth who had anything but war on his mind. He will become the youngest and most victorious warlord in the region. Ever. He will later become a beloved king, an advocate for peace, and a man of deep faith. In his elder years, he will be called upon to defend the Kingdom of Kimbria one last time; and he will die a national hero, the savior of his people. He will marry and become a father and a grandfather; the ancestor of future dukes and duchesses of Ansgar. But right now, he's a parentless orphan; tall for his age, energetic, athletic, quiet, kind, well-liked, and extremely bright. Right now, he has no other expectation for his future but to become a teacher, and possibly a monk. Right now, he has no title, no family, no wealth, and no home, but what Brother Ermen and the monks at Longridge Monastery give him. One day, he will be called Lord and Majesty; but today he's simply called Leofric of Longridge. In this story which is enjoyable for adult and young adult readers alike, we learn more of the details of the tragedy that ripped Leofric's monastery family from him and set him on a very different course in his life. This book is intended as a young adult crossover, to introduce the character of the heroic warlord to younger readers.
