After a strenuous journey through the realm Tess goes home to attend Gladys's wedding and relax. Unfortunately relaxing becomes difficult after Gladys points out one of the after effects of almost dying.

Problems mount as Falren insists on locating the tormented soul she feels in Saralon.

Tess discovers that their effort to rid the Realm of Lilith failed but the journey left a lot of loose ends in need of tidying. Now if she only knew how to deal with over a hundred-fifty freed, talented, humans, all of whom have eaten food from the realm.

Grasshoppers return to the fairy demesne and without a Guardian they are quickly overrun. Tess returns to sort out that problem along with another problem or two she left behind.
