KÅkishin Shinpi, seventeen, and KikkÅ Shinpi, fifteen, live by themselves in Tokyo, Japan. They both attend the same school at Shidare Yanagi Academy. When KÅkishin's required reading book for the semester was changed from TaiyÅ ga umi no ue ni jÅshÅ shimasu to KanashÄ« sutÅrÄ«, the students of class 2-B take a turn for the worst. Many of the students read the previous required book during the summer and were not willing to spend their time reading this new book right away while some were too eager to wait. As each student, one by one, are tragically dying, it's up to the rest of class 2-B to uncover the mystery of these accidents. Will they figure it out in time? Or will all of class 2-B encounter the same fate?
