It has been four hundred years since Roric the Spellcrusher has put an end to the tyranny of wizards, restored peace, and proclaimed himself king of Ilesia...at least, that's what Kaina Haventhorn was supposed to believe.After her grandfather arranges for her to marry Prince Casimir, Kaina runs away from home to start a life of her own. She soon discovers, however, that marrying her isn't Casimir's only objective, and she unwittingly becomes entangled in an age old conflict between the descendants of Roric and a secret underground society of wizards. It falls to Kaina to find and protect a place that contains the last shred of magical knowledge in Ilesia: the Lost Library.Kaina forms an alliance with a band of rebels and their leader, Tristan, and embarks on a journey to find the library with the help of a man known as Melchior. Kaina must learn the ways of magic to not only defend herself against Casimir and her own family, but also against a dark force that has set its sights on her.It doesn't take Kaina long to discover that nothing she thought she knew is true, and that books may not be the only thing lurking within the depths of the Lost Library.
