As Director of Human Resources for the Royal Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Valerie Peterson is used to people disliking her. When your job involves disciplining and firing employees, you're bound to make enemies. Lately, however, she seems to be racking them up like points on a scoreboard, and not just at the hotel. A confrontation with her contractor's wife and a trip to meet the family of her boyfriend, Detective Delgado, adds two more people to the list. Valerie tolerates the heavy breather phone calls and manages to work around a corporate VP's attempts to sabotage her career, but when someone close to her is killed right on her doorstep, she believes her harasser may have escalated to murder. Is the serial killer who is threatening Delgado's family the same person who wants Valerie dead, or does she have another enemy?
