Jacob Baker is trying to rebuild the relationship with his teenage son, Gene, and come to grips with the horrific drug-related death of his ex-wife, Heather. The new district attorney in Tampa, Jack Flaherty, has reopened a two-year old murder case of drug dealers. He is reinterviewing all those who were involved: suspects, witnesses, and those who suffered collateral damage like Jacob. Because Flaherty sees this as the first step to national recognition, he stretches the protocol of his office. Jacob sees this investigation as picking at old wounds and secures the aid of an attorney, Tory Covington. The Mayor's daughter, Beatrice, reignites her relationship with Jacob. She is a back door conduit of information about the reinvestigation. To expand his efforts from the original murders to interstate drug distribution, Flaherty enlists the assistance of federal investigators who follow the money into the temple of power. Jacob suffers blackmail threats and the kidnapping of his son. Tory has a solution.
