Murder stalks the quiet English village of Malminster. There's no connection between the victims, except that they're all young and all pretty.

Chief Inspector Morrissey is desperately looking for shreds of evidence that point to the killer's identity. But the murders seem random, and the killer is very careful. All the chief inspector's got is a fattening file of paperwork and nothing to go on but the latest victim's diary. Worse, he can't get a feel for the mind of the killer he's hunting.

But the killer is watching him--aware that Morrissey is getting close. Perhaps it's time he introduced himself to Morrissey's eighteen-year-old daughter....
