Savvy, newly-on-her-own Chicago attorney Rachel Gold had been asked to lunch by her former boss, head of the staid law firm of Abbott & Windsor. The lunch was all business--but the business was embarrassing. An Abbott & Windsor senior partner, Graham Anderson Marshall III, had succumbed to heart failure while wearing a bright orange scuba outfit, playing diver-- in the arms of a call girl. He had also left behind a wacky codicil to his will: $40,000 to maintain a grave in a pet cemetery for "Canaan." But Graham Anderson Marshall III had never owned a pet.

The firm wanted Rachel to discreetly discover what Marshall buried in Wagging Tail Estates. Her fee was decidedly upscale. The results were definitely down. For the true Canaan legacy was as alive and kinky as a personal ad in today's paper--and as deadly as murder.
