Fulfilment and Other Tales of Women and Men

Now known primarily for lengthy psychological novels like Sister Carrie , Dreiser began his career as a journalist and only later turned to short stories. The two genres have been combined here with the presentation of seven works of ``semifiction,'' sketches of living people, and six short stories, all long out of print. Dreiser's grasp of character is masterful, but his verbose style and attention to atmosphere tend to date the stories; they seem more period pieces than modern short fiction.
