Between nearly obliterating a spell so old nobody remembers its beginnings and nearly killing a warden the council takes an interest in Tess as she struggles to regain control of her emotions. The council offers Tess a position as as Guardian of the Realm but she turns them down in favor of retaining her position in the fairy demesne. Concerned for the stability of the realm they force her to sign a blood oath guarantee her actions.

Old friends crop up and family she was never aware existed become part of her life. New friends become a prominent part of her life. Trey's presence becomes more firm, even as they admit to themselves they're not likely to ever be back together physically. She discovers Tessa is also alive and well and being raised by Trey.
