When neurotic knight George Godfrey is dispatched to save the village of Bathum from a flotilla of foreign warships, his lover, Prithee Hogwaltz, heir to the throne of Doric, is abducted by a giant Wyvern. While Sir Godfrey tries to avert a war with the empire of the Little Folk, Princess Prithee finds herself held hostage by a band of ruthless mercenaries-- right smack dab in the middle of the darkest, deadliest wilderness in the kingdom. The Middenwood plays host to all manner of foul beastie-- green panthers, great wolves, dragons and man-eating bogs-- but none of its predators compare to the threat posed by the mastermind of her abduction, for the thousand-year-old wizard, Unwin Whitecombe, desires more than just a queenly ransom.
