While Rue is hanging out with Nathan, her good friend and local werewolf, a little white fox enters his apartment. As a vampire, not much can get past Rue in the form of a nonhuman. She can see the fox just fine, but Nathan can't see or smell him. Kitsune, a Japanese fox spirit, wants Rue to help him locate a missing young woman.
Rue's job seems simple enough, but there is more going on than the fox shares. People are coming after Rue and Nathan, people with power she has never seen. There is a new darkness in New Orleans, and it could mean the end of all human and nonhuman kind if Rue fails to stop it in time.
