Two disturbing deaths have Superintendent Mike Yeadings's team spread out from the Thames Valley to Amsterdam, looking for answers.

The first victim, Penny Winter, a divorced mother of two, dies as a result of food poisoning. Someone sent her tainted pate–with intent to kill. The second victim, Anneke Vroom, was a young Dutch national found crammed in an antique mahogany chest. She was shot full of heroin–and pregnant.

As the investigations of the separate incidents develop in sinister parallel, the men and women of the Thames Valley Police Force will confront more untimely death before tangled skeins come together to create a diabolical tapestry of murder.
