First Engineer

First Engineer wasn't just a nice title to Morrow.

It was the apex of his existence.

The chance to do what no other man had done before.

To make it possible for man to travel between the planets as easily as from California to New York.

It was an impossible dream and his engineering abilities would make it possible.

But it was going to cost him.

A lot.

Dearly.

It would be many months before he returned home to Megan, his wife.

Lonely nights.

Cold nights.

Millions of miles from any living creature.

But now as he looked outside his craft.

At the endless stars like hot pricks of intense fire burning in the black velvet depths of space.

Now as he looked towards the distant goal of his mission.

Somehow.

Somehow, it just might all turn out to be worthwhile.
