Final Payment

The bodies of the three Hispanic victims don't point to the usual vigilante crime scene involving illegal border traffic in Posadas County, New Mexico. The expensively dressed couple and their grown son were shot execution-style at a remote airstrip. Undersheriff Estelle Reyes-Guzman thinks she's found the Cessna that was ""borrowed"" to bring them into the country--alive. But the reason for their deaths remains a mystery.

Meanwhile, the first annual Posadas 100, a cross-country bicycle race, has local cops hustling to maintain security. When one of the competitors is found dead, Estelle looks for a connection to the murdered family. Soon more violence and an exchange student's artwork provide the missing pieces of a growing puzzle, and a stunned Estelle suspects she knows who the next victim will be, and why.

But being right and staying alive are two very different things.
