Final Leap

It was the new guy's first case, and he splattered his dinner all over his shoes. I couldn't blame him. It was the most horrific domestic I'd ever seen.


The call had come in from a kid, and it was hard for the dispatcher to understand him. The address made even less sense. It was a foundry in the ugly industrial underside of town.


It was Jamal's shift, and I could have ignored the call. He wasn't a rookie, and he had the patrols to back him up. But he was new in town, and Bradley had made it clear that since the other detectives weren't exactly warming up to Jamal, it was my job to keep an eye on him. Neither Jamal nor I appreciated the assignment.
