Fate's Divide

Layla hated the cold.For all the moments her memory failed her, she recalled that much.  The nightmares would kill her someday, she knew. The fires within her were too intense to believe otherwise.   The darkness would win but she would fight until her last breath to keep going.  For Lily, for their little heart,  she would fight. Lily Eisen taught her what it was to live.  Lily raised the girl left for dead at the Guild's doorstep.  Mornesse was a city at death's door.  People were starving in the streets.  The destitute were ignored.    Riots were put down by arrogant, power hungry soldiers. Good people were eliminated if they were brave enough to stand against Justin Morningstar.  Fate's grace was a joke in the eyes of the suffering.   War was coming.  If Mornesse came down around their ears, she would keep Lily alive no matter whose side she had to be on.
