Encounter with Death

A suicide followed by a murder is hardly the way SSP Rajveer Singh envisioned spending his evening at a party to which he is invited with his parents. Surprise! Surprise! He finds Mrs. Thaddani there too. Two years ago she had helped him ferret out the murderer at Golden Palms. Since then he has undergone a sea change in the way he perceives snoopy old women and learnt to trust Sima Thaddani's razor sharp intellect. So when she keeps insisting that the suicide isn't a suicide he listens. And it seems Providence is on his side when he is put in charge of the case after his colleague- in- charge falls prey to dengue. But Rajveer soon begins to rue the day he wanted the case. His investigations reveal a convoluted web in which people are playing a game of hide and seek with him. Complex, artistic, temperamental, shuttling between the two cities Delhi and Mumbai, the group to which both victims belonged, begin to pose a major problem for Rajveer.
Are those two events at the party linked? The murdered victim Pratham was the suicide victim Smriti's ex- fiancé. Pratham is killed due to blunt force trauma. So what do the traces of chloral hydrate in his blood have to do with anything? Autopsy reports reveal Smriti was poisoned before she drowned in the pool. Not a suicide after all!
Trying to make sense of the whole thing Rajveer suffers another setback when Smriti's friend Tara's throat is slit. The whole thing bears the stamp of a professional hit.
Three different MOs. A lot of questions unanswered. A whole lot more suspects than he bargained for. Seniors breathing down his neck because of political pressure. Rajveer Singh never had it so bad. Will he be able to find his way out of this one?
