Boston artist Leigh Haring arrives in northern New Mexico to claim the body of her sister, Leni, found with a cache of exotic drugs on the scene. But straight answers are not forthcoming and Leigh must draw her own conclusions. She suspects that Leni's doctoral research on the history of visionary drug use has somehow cost her her life.

As she is drawn into the complex web of Leni's life, Leigh encounters secrets involving sacred Indian ceremonial grounds and CIA experimental drug use--and the mystery that has haunted her own family since childhood. But in getting to the truth, she finds that Leni's tragic fate may also be her own.
