About This Book

Ages ago, in the land called Thulia, the people decided they needed a king.

Just why they came to this foolhardy decision is a matter for the historians to debate. But decide they did.

At first, the royal class seemed to do some good. They hunted down criminals and brought them to justice. They organized an army that made the people feel safer.

But then, things began to go bad. The king and queen never seemed to tire of war. They always seemed to have some plausible reason for it--usually some insult or other to the Thulian national pride. The Thulians were indeed a proud people. Rightly so. And when Thulia inevitably won (for Thulians were indeed well-drilled in the war-making arts), the king and queen found themselves enriched with tribute.

But two powers eventually stood against the king and queen: the Norns and the dragons. They did not fall for the usual tricks. A young man named Leif (later called The Red) was even ready to take up arms against the king. He would have succeeded, too, with the support of both Norns and dragons. Everything was ready to return Thulia once again to a land of freedom.

But then, Leif fell in love with the wrong woman….
