This is the fifth summer of the war. The fifth summer in which the sounds of battle ring out beneath the trees and on the beaches. The fifth summer of burials of the fallen, both mots and men. By now, the watermots no longer wonder why an army of men was ever sent to haunt their lives. Throughout the Land, it is simply accepted....

Thru Gillo isn't a modem legend for nothing. Throughout the great war against Man the Cruel, Thru, a watermot, has displayed unsurpassed bravery, cunning, and strength, making his a household name. But his biggest trials are yet to come.

He has proven himself on land, but the war has drifted out to sea, and Thru will have to find his sea legs before claiming victory. Another source of angst: He will have to choose between three females who each claim a part of his heart. But nobody has seen this war hero for months. And everyone suspects the worst....
