Devil's Drop

Heather Wright smashes her brain on a pointed basaltic rock after she falls off the Devil's Postpile National Monument. Witnesses in the area tell the investigating ranger that Heather's husband, Tom, was nowhere near her before her fall. Tom, an out of work electrician, opts for a monthly annuity payment instead of a lump sum on Heather's $2 million life insurance policy. He buys a fancy motorhome and travels the western states with his dog, Coco. He visits popular tourist sites and stops often to fish. When Heather's sister complains to the insurance company she is certain Tom pushed Heather to her death, Private Investigator Dan Ballantine is sent to investigate. He locates Tom in a June Lake RV resort and learns they share interests. Soon they are fishing, shooting, motorcycling, hiking, and camping together. Dan likes Tom, but he knows he must find a way to prove the man's innocence or guilt.
