In Pasadena, the chief prosecutor and investigators of the Violent Crimes Unit were puzzled and alarmed by the deaths of rapists and abusers of women and children they were in the process of arresting or indicting. While no one was mourning the loss of these predators, it was soon apparent that a serial killer was eliminating them before they could be brought to justice.
