Death by Sugar

For a private investigator, Jesse Clarke makes a great publicist! Jesse, with her business partner, Ed, runs a hot-shot publicity business but with a recently-attained qualification in private investigation, Jesse is trying to find her feet in her new field, as well as what her clients pay her to find. Jesse always thought sugar was such a friendly substance, until it shows up in her two new cases for all the wrong reasons. When a black Mercedes blows up in front of the cafe where Jesse and her personal trainer, boyfriend, Dominic, are enjoying a cappuccino, the Mercedes owner, Renzo Leonardo, becomes her client. She has her work cut out trying to sort out who are Renzo’s friends and enemies. Jesse makes an ally in the police service, Officer Jason Abingdon, who has more than a professional interest in Jesseâ€"he brings her a new case; the suspicion that his father killed his mother over thirty years ago. Juggling the two cases, Jesse is talking to the living and the dead to get answers.
