David caught a flicker of movement behind the trees just as something buzzed past his face and landed with a plop in the river.

"David!" Susan cried in fright. "Someone's shooting at us!"

Fourteen-year-old David Durant has a serious mystery to solve. When a set of pistols--family heirlooms--disappeared years ago, David's grandfather became convinced that David's father stole them.

When David and his younger sister, Susan, come to live with his grandfather and aunt, David is determined to find those missing pistols and reconcile his father and grandfather.
