An innocent man, Harvey Dexter is executed leaving behind someone that wants revenge. Curtis Lake and his partner are starting a new job when unbeknownst a vengeful killer strikes. His wife Chief Rivers, calls telling him someone just blew up the courthouse. Chief Rivers fails to handle the investigation alone, placing her husband Curtis, on a trajectory to disaster. Curtis ignores the FBI's warning to stay clear of the investigation. While on the trail of a vicious killer, Curtis finds himself in the middle of a terrorist act, with bits and pieces of another unexplained crime exposing a cover-up. Doc Ryan, the Chief Medical Examiner turns the case a 180 degrees, pointing the investigation in a complete different direction. His discovery of a mutilated body forces Curtis to rethink what it is he overlooked, the man next to him.
