Just as tragedy can separate, it can also reunite and transform the futures of its survivors

When Imogen was a child, there were few things she and her brother enjoyed as much as their time spent in the wilderness of Idaho. One day, eight-year-old Imogen has a premonition of her brother drowning. Despite her inability to understand the vision's meaning, she leads the authorities to her brother's body, while his best friend, Connla, can only watch.

First published under the name Adam Armstrong, a Jeff Gulvin pseudonym, Cry of the Panther demonstrates how love can heal any wound. Thirty years after the tragedy, Imogen and Connla still struggle with its memory. Both have retreated into the solitude of the wilderness, albeit thousands of miles apart. Shirking the attention of the men around her, Imogen attempts to find solace as she paints the breathtaking vistas and landscapes of Scotland; meanwhile, Connla, in the United States, works deep in the woods as a nature photographer. The reemergence of a rare animal compels Connla to find Imogen. And the two will have to reconcile with the past once more, and heal each other of their shared childhood trauma.
