Donna's dream of clean drinking water for every child is going up in smoke, but her life may be in greater danger than her dream. Petite, fiery Donna Roybal is known for developing complex solutions to complex environmental problems, but when the director of a Russian shipyard near the Arctic Circle drops a bombshell that threatens the integrity of her award-winning groundwater cleanup system, technical issues are not her greatest concern. Confronted with laboratory data she cannot explain, the Red Ant sees her dream of clean water for every child slipping from her grasp. Do the Russians want more money, as she had been warned, or did she miss a critical item because she rushed the laboratory work? Something she promised herself, after the accident, never to do again. Undeterred, Donna is relentless in her effort to solve the problem, but an unexplained fire in the laboratory, a disgruntled Russian chemist, and a husband fed up with her frequent travel are not making the job any easier. Though Russian troops are increasing their exercises near Ukraine, and against the advice of her best friend and trusted colleagues, Donna returns to the frozen north with a plan sure to correct the problem-but the Russians have their own plan.
