Deputy Slater McCullough, a confirmed bachelor, is stunned when security specialist Lana Walsh shows up on his doorstep with an infant. The baby's mother has been murdered and for mysterious reasons has claimed Slater is the father. When Lana reveals that someone is after them, Slater realizes the mother must have wanted him to protect the baby. But from whom? As they hide out under police protection, the unacknowledged heat that has always simmered between Slater and Lana threatens to become a fatal distraction.
