Beauty pageants can be murder—nobody knows that better than Madeline "Mac" Maclin, a former homegrown North Carolina beauty queen turned struggling private investigator. So when somebody starts sabotaging a local pageant, Mac knows just where to start snooping in the world of big hair, skimpy costumes and fierce rivalry. But when one of the contestants is found strangled, things really get ugly.

Especially because Mac's also investigating some strange doings at a haunted house belonging to her friend Jerry, a sexy psychic who remains oblivious to her growing romantic affections. Juggling a murder mystery, a ghost and her love life requires some talent—but nobody can outclass or outsmart a former Miss Parkland, North Carolina…except, perhaps, a clever killer.
