As women sleuths go, Billie Bly is one tough private investigator. But when her psychic tells her she is to stumble upon a murder, she wishes the seer also would have told her it was Billie who was to be the victim in her own private murder mystery. Maybe her psychic didn't want to give her more to worry about. Billie's already stressed because of a looming million-dollar lawsuit, a missing client who doesn't want to be found, and her on again off again romance with her former cop partner. To learn who wants her dead and why people are dying around her, Billie follows a trail of evidence to Portland's City Hall. It's crawling with suspects: a mayor who wants to be governor at any cost; his mistress, who wants to tag along with or without her city auditor husband; a city commissioner who hires a private investigator to spy on Billie; and an ambitious cop seeking advancement at any price. The suspense mounts as the mayor attempts to put Billie under house arrest for her own good and an assassin tries to kill her in a drive-by shooting, then takes out a chief witness at the Portland Pirate Festival. Billie begins thinking she needs better paranormal advice. Perhaps a psychic who tell her who is behind this crime surge. Is the assassin a man Billie once loved?
