In the anticipated follow-up to Guardian Angels: The Setting Moon, Danielle Kelson survives her disastrous trial attempt and is given her very first official mission. The President of the Council, Patreck Danes, has other plans for her. While Frog and Jordan are sent out, Dan is left in the wake of the Council's sinister plots. What begins with seemingly innocuous occurrences quickly develops into a dangerous play for power, where Dan is the favored weapon of choice. The stakes of the game rise dramatically, forcing the Commander to resort to extreme measures: lie to the Council and send Dan across the galaxy. She is hidden on the distant planet Cassio, where she spends her days guarding the Royal Family. Yet the more she discovers about them, the less trustworthy they seem. In a dangerous turn, Chief is released from prison and relentlessly seeks Dan's life once again. As time goes on, danger and death begin to encroach upon the people she loves, and the only resolution rests with the Council. The sides of the battle have been chosen, but the line between them begins to blur.
