Preparations for Emerald Point's lucrative tourist season are well under way, but Mayor Loren Graham fears murder could be this year's major attraction. First, she finds a body in a locked display case of French and Indian War memorabilia--but it disappears before the authorities arrive. Next, the community's most dedicated organizer, Madeline Hathaway, is found dead, pushed down the stone steps of her lakeside home. While suspicion falls to her husband, Loren uses her connections to dig beyond the bucolic surface of a pretty town and muck around in some sordid doings. Strangers appear with a surprising connection to the wealthy Madeline, and soon Loren is struggling to unravel a mystery of passion, deceit and murder, where innocent and guilty alike have secrets...and too many questions can invoke a killer's wrath.
