About This Book

It begins with a camper's disappearance while fishing the scenic Buffalo River in rural Tennessee. The Logan County's search and rescue efforts turn ugly when the camper's grisly remains are found four days later. Sheriff Dan Parks finds himself pitted against an unknown entity as Memorial Day campers flock to the area for a long weekend of camping, fishing, canoeing, and swimming. His search for answers is hindered by inclement weather, rowdy campers, and unruly locals, as he races against time to find the cause of death. His attempts to protect the public are also thwarted by local businessmen who rely on busy weekends for their livelihood. Before Sheriff Parks can find the answer to the camper's gory death, two locals go missing. Not knowing what he is up against or which way to turn, Sheriff Parks enlists the aid of Dr. Clay Richards, a Jackson veterinarian and noted herpetologist. The search for answers leads to Annie Barker's place. In her eighties and distrustful of most outsiders, Annie is the last of her once prominent but shady family. Sheriff Parks and Dr. Richards begin to unravel the painful past and long buried secrets of the Barker family. Bitter secrets still guarded by the last living matriarch, whose hundreds of acres border the Buffalo on both sides. And, on whose property, secrets long forgotten still thrive.
