Book #1 of a Series. The main character is a man by the name of Nikolai Anatoly Kuznetsov, his middle name being Patronymic as it was his father's first name. He inherits an old farmhouse and land where his father worked his fingers to the bone for his family. His mother, Irina, is long since deceased. He has left his native Russia for Milan, Italy, has houses all over the world, and plays it safe in business. Now faced with the possibility of losing it all due to the deceitfulness of his nephew, who has a letter left to him by Nikolai's brother accusing him of stealing his business idea; he has to leave everything he owns and escape to the old farmhouse. Refusing to sacrifice the good life, his wife up and divorces him for his neighbor and his children are shipped off to boarding school in Europe. He has less than a year to pull himself up from despair and turn things around; the only way to do so is to confront the reason why he keeps dreaming about his mother. She's trying to get his attention, but he doesn't understand why until it's nearly too late.
