Dietrich Addison lost his mother at the age of two years old. She was a victim of a plague epidemic that broke out in Venice. His father took him to live in China with his longtime friend Emperor Zhu Qizhen in order to escape the epidemic. Qizhen welcomed them but was on his death bed. Before he died he insured that they would be given safe passage to Shaoxing, a city to the south of Beijing. This is where another good friend Jao-long lived. He was a governor and a philosopher. In China he was a very powerful and well respected man. He welcomed them and treated them like family.His father would often leave on diplomatic duties assigned to him. In his absence Jao-long's daughter Jah-lee would care for Dietrich. She became like a mother to him. She gave him the nickname Deet. Soon this is what everyone called him.At the age of ten Deet and his father try to return to Europe but were caught in a storm that left them adrift. After the storm the strange weather that would someday be known as El Nino carries them east. Eventually they end up in Central America where they encounter the native peoples. They arrive in turbulent times because the Aztecs have recently taken over the lands. Only with the help of Zeus, a white tiger Deet acquires in China will he survive. They share an adventure like no other. Together... they become a legend.
