About This Book

Divine boredom presages no good for humankind--and the Old Ones are stirring. An exhausted young warrior reaches the mighty gates of Sainjon, a wild and violent frontier town in the Kingdom of Drumalban. Calidon, son of the murdered Lord of the Outlands, is accused by his power-grasping uncle of the dastardly crime and is forced to flee his native isles. In a waterfront tavern, he encounters a mysterious one-eyed stranger who seems inexplicably aware of his plight and speaks in riddles to him of destinies and doom, fate and friendships. Meanwhile, across the dividing Salif Sea in the kingdom of Roumaigne, a sinister cult of fanatics is gaining control of the capital, Raimar, and fear and persecution reign. Princess Elisande of Roumaigne awakes screaming. She is nightly haunted by blood-soaked visions of murder and sorcery. Even the king seems helpless against this spreading terror and his daughter's erratic behavior is placing her in mortal danger. Only a courageous few work secretly against the growing menace.
