Three men bound by the fearful symmetry of their swords: Tholimbras Kree, a fallen knight descending into madness who still carries a Null Sword, the chosen vorpal weapon of his chivalric order; Arakyn Jairo, a man incestuously tied to his sister, in search of a snake cult at her behest, and given a dancing sword by her; and Erikos Mews, a bard with a penchant for penning erotica, whose blade, Xiphos, is a sword of lightness that always strikes first. The three men form a company of errants and, in a mercenary venture, agree to transport a statue for wealthy, drug-addled and tattooed merchants. In their wanderings through the lands of the Collommossus they encounter: mages who inject themselves with syringes laden with the magic-inducing drug isomorphine; an albino knight who has been cloned endlessly; a sublimely beatific dragon, with butterfly wings, dripping acid, fire, and napalm; Farsi, or Followers of the Fist, men who see torture as an art; a master pornographer on trial for indecency and heresy; a sea-witch who is forced to see the future by drinking the milk of a sea lioness; ruthless sailors commandeering the slave and drug trades to the New World; and an elusive cabal known as the Shao-Rakhasa seeking hosts for deadly, parasitic creatures. A Time Slain Moment is an explosive postmodern take on the traditional genre of fantasy. The novel has an asynchronous narrative, meta-fictional elements, bullet-like chapters and aggressive action sequences that easily translate into the mayhem and pulp of cinema. Wands are replaced by syringes.
