A Private Crime

Manhattan's pleasant Upper East Side has always been safe from the city's drug wars-until a crackpot with an. AK-47 fires on a crowd at an open-air flea market, killing a teenage mother and her infant. The shocked neighborhood looks to Lt. Norah Mulcahaney and the Fourth Homicide Team for answers.

Norah's friend Randall Tye, the TV news anchor, is convinced the killings are drug-related. Norah disagrees, but when traces of cocaine are found in the carriage of the slain infant, she decides to confront Tye and force him to reveal his source of information. Then Tye vanishes, and Norah is left to deal alone with an opportunistic and cold-blooded killer--in a shocking denouement that hits painfully close to home.
