After convincing his family that a Soap Celebration would be the perfect way to boost sales in their Where There's Soap boutique, Benjamin must deal with the store's special guest-soapmaking queen and author Contessa New Berne--who's clearly unhappy with the small-town hospitality of Harper's Landing, North Carolina. But her complaints are permanently silenced by a blow to the back of her head and a bar of soap stuffed in her mouth. It turns out the Contessa's past is linked with Benjamin's girlfriend, who had the perfect motive--and the perfect opportunity to kill her...
