After the last war between the race of man and the elves and dwarves, the immortals withdrew to the distant shores of Iceland. When the first winter solstice in their new home arrived, the elf, Lord Klaus, and the dwarf, King Alberich, joined forces to make presents for their children orphaned by war. The moments of joy they brought touched them so deeply, the two made a pact to make presents for all their children every winter solstice. As the tradition grew, they realized children from all races deserved this simple gift of joy. To make this possible, they needed stronger magic than either the elves or dwarfs possessed.
