A teenage girl is slain in Bamford -- and the peaceful Cotswolds village will never be the same. Chief Inspector Alan Markby knows little about the victim -- an underage regular at a local pub who left in the company of an unknown man on the night she was killed.

Markby's dear friend Meredith Mitchell, in the meantime, has befriended a second troubled teen -- and is gaining first-hand insight into the restless dissatisfaction that plagues Bamford's younger adults.
