FBI agent Lily Foxworthy and her actor husband Peter von Rabenhorst are off to England for 5 weeks where Peter is to teach a master class at The Royal Shakespeare Company. One member of the board is far more than he appears to be, because he's actually an ancient Roman vampire reawakened in 1947 by a farmer looking for ancient roman coins.

Unfortunately, Lily and Peter have leased the cottage which was formerly owned by the long dead farmer, and along with their theatre and dinner engagements with this Gaius Quatremain, find themselves battling it out at the same cottage.

Being buried underground for two millennia after he was created by the evil Roman emperor Caligula makes Gaius pretty ticked off. And, he's also fairly hungry.

Using his collection of large spiders to subdue his victims, Gaius provides many challenges to Peter and Lily, who only want to find a bit of peace and quiet in the old country.
