On a late-spring afternoon, Mitchell St. Cyr drove to his former mother-in-law's and picked up Maggie and Russell. He changed their name to Smith and headed out of Seattle. He had kidnapped his own children, and none of their lives would ever be the same.

Fleeing the dark world his children's stepfather had exposed them to, he sought a safe haven in Florida with Clara and Pop Kendall. Then he learned that their daughter, Jacky, was the county juvenile officer.

Mitch had two choices: He could keep on running, or he could stay and fight for their lives -- and for Jacky.
