In times when Kings ruled kingdoms marriages were arranged for the benefit of political alliances. Prince Thomas was aware that eventually his father King Lawrence would insist on an arranged marriage. He felt a victim of this future certainty, until he met his friend James of Ladoe. James was a seventeen year old man of the streets. He spotted fourteen year old Prince Thomas trying to disguise himself as a commoner. He noticed his attire was too perfect and when Prince Thomas was under threat of attack it was James that came to his rescue.
