What does an astrologer for a small Denver paper do when the summer brings a heat wave and an anonymous death threat? She heads for the mountain gambling town of Silverado where it's cooler...and safer. Until her problems follow her in the form of a troubled young woman from Wichita; who drops dead in Stella's arms.

Finding a letter addressed to Stella among the woman's possessions, the sheriff decides that Stella is a pretty logical suspect. Naturally, Stella suspects someone else, until that someone turns up dead, too. Could things be worse?

Oh, yes. A killer wants her dead, as well.
