Wyndham's Bride

Emily had met Sir Charles Wyndham at a neighbourly party, but she had not exchanged more than a dozen words with him. So it came as a shock to learn, the next morning, that he had asked her father for her hand in marriage. Her father was in dire need of the financial assistance Wyndham had promised. Without this, the whole family would fall into the power of her father's abominable cousin Henry, who wanted Emily for himself. Any husband had to be better than Henry, even one who was related to the outrageous and outspoken Lady Bamford, who seemed determined to meddle in everything. Sir Charles was handsome, good-humoured and even seemed sympathetic of the predicament she was in. Little by little and in spite of herself, Emily found herself drawn to him.
